Since its inaugural meeting in 1980 at the University of Wollongong, Australia, the Atomic and Molecular Physics and Quantum Chemistry (AMPQC) meetings have provided a regular Australian forum for atomic- and molecular-physicists and physical- and quantum-chemists to present research findings, exchange ideas and promote collaborations. Historically the meetings have been held as stand-alone workshops or incorporated into the Australian Institute of Physics Congress series either as special session or sessions containing AMPQC topics. Although mainly attended by Australian-based researchers, contributions from overseas scientists have been a crucial component of the AMPQC success. For this year, with a large number of overseas physicists attending the Asian International Seminar on Atomic and Molecular Physics the AMPQC 2008 meeting has been incorporated into the AISAMP8 conference.
